Stories of Migration
This piece is my reflection on a Witness for Peace delegation to Mexico - focusing on "The Roots of Migration" - that I participated in this past summer. During this 2 week journey, I joined a group of 10 or so individuals in Oaxaca (southern Mexico), Nogales and Altar (Northern Mexico, right by the Arizona border), and Tuscon, Az., as we set out to learn about Mexican History, current-day US/Mexico politics, the effects of NAFTA on the Mexican economy and traditional agricultural and cultural practices, border politics, indigenous movements and reaffirmation of indigenous rights, etc., and speak to people about their own personal migration experiences both within Mexico and the US (all the while examining our own privileges and individual/group identities). Each image within the larger picture has a meaning; see if you can figure it out!
